Preventing Mold Propagation in Your House It is common to find mold spores in a houses indoor air and other surfaces such as clothes, the, and furniture. Most of the time mold found inside are probably from somewhere other than inside the house. Regular cleaning helps to insure mold levels stay low. Sanitizing small spots of visible mold, like the black mold around your sink, is obligatory to maintain sanitary conditions.
When you should be more worried is when your home has a large-scale area of black mold growing. These problems are most likely to occur when there has been an on-going water leak, flooding, or excessively high level of moisture in the house. Indoor mold spore growth may lead to very high levels of airborne mold, which, in turn, can set off the spread of black mold growth from the primary source to additional areas of the home having high moisture levels.
Large levels of black mold growth will damage your home and furnishings such as carpeting, sofas and cabinets. Over a period of time, unfettered mold growth may even instigate unseen damage to structural elements of your house. While there is no practical way to get rid of all mold and mold spores on the inside of your home, keeping your house clean and dry can help avert major mold growth and possible damages it can cause.
Damages to your house and property is not the only reason to be concerned about mold spores. Although most people are exposed to minute quantities of mold or their spores on a regular basis without noticeable harm, black mold is an unsanitary condition that can present potential health risks to certain individuals.
Possible unfavorable health effects produced by mold spores can include hypersensitivity, annoying, or toxigenic effects, and possibly infections, allergy problems being the most prevalent. Symptoms reported by affected people include: breathing problems, like wheezing, difficulty breathing, and shortness of breath, sneezing and/or nasal stuffiness, eye and/or throat irritation, headaches and fatigue.
